Chelsea - Premier League Champions 2009/2010

  • Chelsea have managed to win the title in England after 3 years. But now, the Blues have done it with some style. The total goal tally went as high as 103 in 38 games which is better than Tottenham did in the 60s when a season meant playing 40 games.
  • Frank Lampard was in scintillating form come the end of the season, with Drogba and Malouda both with great contribution in this title. Lampard finished with the highest number of assists - 14 and with his highest tally of goals scored in a season - 22, 10 of which were penalties. Drogba was top goalscorer of the Premier League with 29 goals, his best since he came to the Blues in 2004.
  • Chelsea was uncontainable at home where the Blues stumbled only twice, a defeat to Manchester City and a draw against Everton, while winning 17 times.
  • Carlo Ancelotti won the title in his first season at Chelsea and in England. The Italian will have to build on this success as he was put in charge to win the Uefa Champions League.
  • Russian owner Roman Abramovich was for the first time since he came to Stamford Bridge more than happy. He literally jumped for joy during the last game of the season, a 8-0 thumping of Wigan which saw fluent attacking, a trademark for Chelsea's season and also spectacular finishing.
  • It was a rare season in the fact that for the first time since the Premier League was founded, a team beat home and away all other three in the Big Four.
  • The Premier League saw 5 guys breaking the 20 goal mark this season, a record since it was founded. All credits to Chelsea then for taking on the show and really deserving a title in the most spectacular championship in the world.
